What do you think of chewing gum? Sometimes yes it could be annoying, but I love it. I love it so much I think it should be aloud for middle schoolers. Reasons, why it should be allowed in school, is that gum helps kids focus and improves contraction, it cleans teeth and refreshes mouth after a meal, and it can help kids become a lot more responsible and mature. If it was up to me I would allow gum in school.
The first reason why I think kids in middle school should chew gum because it helps you focus and improves your contraction. Kate Morgan is the girl that did a study on the gum. Her study focused on a radio task that involved short term memory recall to see if chewing gum can improve your contraction. Other studies show that the jaw movement helps the brain understand and focus a lot more. Gum is a great way to help kids and even adults focus.
The next way gum should be allowed in middle school is that it cleans teeth. Gum of any mint flavor cleans your teeth. Not only does it clean teeth, but it also refreshes your teeth after any meal or snack. Both the act of chewing and the flavor of the artificial sweeteners in the gum stimulate ten times the normal rate of saliva flow. Also, it washes away food particles, helping to keep your teeth clean. Who doesn't want their teeth to be clean after a meal at school?
The last reason is that some people argue that chewing gum in school is not okay because kids are not responsible enough to throw away gum and be mature with it. That is not the case though gum can actually help a kid become responsible. The way gum can do that is because kids will learn how to put gum in the trash and not become immature with it. This can help kids learn to pick up after themselves.
In conclusion, middle schoolers should be able to chew gum. They should be able to chew gum because it helps kids focus and improves contraction, it cleans teeth and can help kids become more responsible. Do you think kids in middle school should be able to chew gum in school or do you think they should not?
