Students Should be Allowed to Pick Seats in School

Isn't it annoying when you are assigned seats and the person you sit next to either you don’t like them or they don’t talk. Well at my school that happens a lot because we get assigned seats everywhere. Kids should be allowed to pick their seats during the school day.

First, Allowing kids to pick their own seats will teach them responsibility. Jamie Goodwin, a graduate from Brigham, Young University says, “Students need to take responsibility for their own education.” It can help kids learn and focus better because you need to show the teacher you are responsible enough. You also can make the choice to sit next to a good influence.

Second, Sitting next to people you are unfamiliar with might make you uncomfortable and ultimately distract your learning. Even worse would be if a student was forced to sit next to someone who was bullying them. Reuters Health says, “ Not only does bullying at school affect students emotional and social lives it also directly affects their schoolwork and engagement in the classroom.” You might not like who you sit next to, and if your uncomfortable it may be harder for you to pay attention.

Some people would say that sitting in assigned seats would help kids make new friends. That is a reasonable argument because kids will have to talk to each other, however, if you have a seating chart and kids don’t like each other they might fight more.

Kids should be allowed to pick their seats because they will want to come to class and interact with the class and if everyone is interacting it will make the class a lot better. In conclusion, letting kids pick their seats is very important.
