Have you ever been judged for what you done for a sport? A bunch of Cheerleaders get judged and a lot of people tend to fight over if Cheerleading is a sport or not. People tend to go off of stereotypes and just assume things. Some other sports don't like to believe that Cheerleading is a sport. The definition of ¨sport¨ defines Cheer. Cheerleading should be recognized as a sport to everyone, because of all the things that cheerleaders do and are put through.
Firstly, Cheerleading requires extreme skill and strength. ¨I don't know if you and/or one of your friends have ever tried to chuck a hundred pound or more person into the air and catch them before but it doesn't seem that easy.¨ ¨You have to be able to either lift and toss or be lifted and tossed.¨ According to Bleacher Report, to be able to throw a person who weighs 100 pounds or more a bunch of times and catch them definitely needs skill and strength. You have to be coordinated and strong. To be able to do that you have to practice, and be trained.
Secondly, Cheerleading is a dangerous sport that takes bravery from all participants. ¨In fact, approximately 16,000 cheerleaders get injured in cheer related activities more than any other sport-like activity.¨ When cheerleaders are doing stunts the flyers can fall and if no one catches them they could be paralyzed. Even a base or back can get injured if the flyer falls on them or if they catch someone weird. Cheer can be a scary sport, but you have to go through with everything.
Lastly, according to Love To Know they would argue that school cheer isn't a sport, but competitive cheer is. One cannot deny that competitive cheer does more than school cheer. However, both types of cheerleading gets judged, compete, and have to stay conditioned. The flyers are risking their lives to the bases and back to catch them, and even the bases and back can get seriously injured when catching the flyers. What is great is that the girls and boys have fun while participating, their team grows a strong bond, and they always have each other's backs.
In conclusion, everyone should recognize cheerleading as a sport. Cheerleaders need a lot of skill and strength. They need to be able to trust their teammates, be brave, and stay in shape. It is hard being a cheerleader because people think you are a dumb blonde because that's what image comes to their heads from stereotyping. After reading this you should believe that cheer leading is a sport.
