Plastic Dangers

Plastic Dangers

Imagine being in a world of black and white with everyone having to wear masks. All the animals we loved, gone. This is what the world will come too soon because of plastic. Plastic is very harmful to the environment and is affecting the environment more and more. The amount of plastic used for packaging needs to be reduced.

First, the benefit of plastic being removed is that there will be fewer chemicals in the air. In the article, Plastic Pros and Cons, it says, “Our obsession with plastic is loading up the planet with toxic chemicals.” Plastic is contained with chemicals and the more we use the plastic, the more chemicals the earth will suffer with. Therefore, plastic should be reduced due to the chemicals it contains.

Next, if the plastic is minimized, food will be better for you. In the article, Plastic Pros and Cons, it says, “The concern is that plastic food-storage containers are leaching chemicals such as bisphenol A into our food.” Not only is plastic causing chemicals being released into the air, but it is also producing chemicals into our food. The more chemicals we take in, the more unhealthy we will get. To sum it up, plastic is giving off bad chemicals that we don’t want.

Some would argue that plastic is stronger and more cost-effective than a lot of other materials. One cannot deny that plastic is really strong and in most cases more cost-effective. However, if we keep using the plastic as our main material, most of our trash will end up in the ocean. In the article, Plastic Pollution Affects Sea Life Throughout the Ocean, it says, “The gray whale that died after stranding near Seattle in 2010 with more than 20 plastic bags, a golf ball, and other rubbish in its stomach to the harbor seal pup found dead on the Scottish island of Skye, its intestines fouled by a small piece of plastic wrapper.” Animals are dying because of the dangers of plastic. If all animals die then at one point we will too because of the food chain we have in order to live. Therefore, given that animals are dying due to plastic, plastic should be reduced.

All in all, the amount of plastic used in packaging needs to be reduced. The highlights of reducing plastic include fewer chemicals in the air, food will be better for you, and there will be less trash in the ocean. To sum up, people should step up and save the environment by reducing the amount of plastic they use.
