Have you ever wondered what kind of pet to get? I have not because I know that dogs are better than cats. It is important to choose a fitting pet for your lifestyle and I am here to tell you that that pet is, in fact, a dog. Dogs are better than cats because they are more helpful to society, they do not need litter boxes, and there are so many different kinds of dogs, big and small, so there are so many different breeds for you to pick from.








The first reason dogs are better than cats is, dogs can be more helpful to society. One way dogs can be more helpful to society is that they can be part of a K9 unit. Dwight D. Eisenhower, the 34th president of the United States said,” What counts is not necessarily the size of the dog in the fight; it’s the size of the fight in the dog”. This shows even someone as powerful as the 34th president of the United States agrees that dogs have the will to fight, and any dog could fight. Cats, however, are lazy and stay at home and sleep all day. If cats can barely stay awake I do not think they would be able to be a part of a K9 unit or anything of the sort.





My next reason is, cats need a litter box, dogs, however, don’t. With litter boxes, you have to change the litter, and buy new litter. With dogs all you have to do is let them outside, they will do their business anywhere they want. Also, if you don’t want to get up, you can install a doggy door so they can come in and out as they please. While dogs can go wherever they want, cats need a litter box and that has many downsides, such as the money it takes to buy new litter.





Some people might say cats are better than dogs because they are smaller. While this is true for most cases, there are 340 breeds of dog, according to the Fédération Cynologique Internationale. With all these options comes an abundance of small dogs such as a pug or a pomeranian. There are so many more types of dogs then there are cats, therefore there are more options for dogs, 340 options to be exact. As of 2019, The International Cat Association determined there are 71 breeds of cats and compared to 340 that’s nothing.





Dogs are so much better than cats, so next time you're wondering what kind of pet to get, get a dog. Dogs don’t need a litter box they can just go outside, so you will save some money, Dogs can be helpful to society such as being a service dog or a part of a K9 unit, and If you want something smaller, there are 340 options to pick and choose from to find the perfect dog. Dogs come in all shapes and sizes! In conclusion, when deciding what pet to get, you should get a dog.
