Every Few Months a new song is released by an artist. Most of these artists could be good, some could be bad. Most of today’s kids listen to Pop and Hip Hop/Rap, pop music is ok for kids but rap music isn’t. The parents don’t pay attention to their kids enough, and they might never know what their kids are listening to. In today’s world, no parents check or look at what their kids are doing what parents should do is monitor their children’s choice of music.
Some people could argue that while children are listening to this music, and they are exposed to inappropriate content and explicit content in the music. According to AAP Publications “lyrics have become more explicit in their references to drugs, sex, and violence over the years, particularly in certain genres”. This information would lead to tell you that Hip Hop/ Rap and Other genres should on no condition be listened to by children without their parent's permission and/or Consent.
52% of children age 19 and under listen to pop music which means most of these kids are not anywhere near mature enough to choose whether they should or shouldn’t listen to it. According to AAP Publications “Furthermore, it has been reported that children 8 to 10 of age listen to music an average of an hour a day.”. With this information, we can see that the kids who listen to this music are at a very young age and their brains don’t fully develop until they are 25 years old which means that some of them do not understand what the artist may be saying in the song, which further proves the point.
Parents usually keep track of their child’s activity on music apps and other things that they would do on the internet. The statistics on Statista show that 48% of children 19 and under listen to Hip Hop/Rap all the time even when these artists are applying this music to adults. The information found clearly shows that these kids are listening to this music and since this is such a big percentage that means most of these children’s parents are not paying attention to their children’s music.
In Conclusion, parents do not monitor their child’s music and what they hear and are watching involving this music. These kids are all exposed to this inappropriate content which is shown from the 52% that listen to Pop and 48% that listen to Hip Hop/Rap. Both of these are known as the most inappropriate out of all existing genres in the many music industries. To all parents that do not already, make sure you know what your kids are doing on the very long and big internet and especially the music content they are being exposed to. Nobody is saying to ban this music, just watch out for your children.
I strongly disagree, rap music can be inspiring to kids of color. Many rappers are of color/black, and come from poverty. It teaches other impoverished black kids that they can rise into wealth. Maybe listen to the lyrics more so, or to different rappers such as Jay z, or Kendrick Lamar. Yes it's vulgar, but it inspires hope to those who need it. The same could b said for pop music, where suggestive themes are often there, but nobody cares. Not all rap is about guns and drugs, and to assume so is unfair, and if you look at the demographics, a little racist. RIP Juice Wrld.
