School arrival times should be pushed back persuasive argument
Every morning when I wake up I feel groggy and tired, I’m never excited about getting up early. Many of the reasons I don’t get enough sleep is because of normal everyday stress and schoolwork. Due to school arrival times that are too early, teens are associated with many health risks. That is why school arrival times should be pushed back at least an hour later than the arrival time is now.For one reason teens are facing health problems mainly due to lack of sleep. According to cdc.gov, it explains that“Adolescents who do not get enough sleep are more likely to be overweight, not engage in daily physical activity, suffer from symptoms of depression, engage in unhealthy risk behaviors such as drinking, smoking tobacco, and using illicit drugs, and perform badly in school.” Teens need at least 8 hours of sleep every night to be healthy and function properly. However, with the stress of school assignments and daily life, it is very hard to get to bed at a “decent” time. Teens hardly ever get enough sleep and that has led to many health issues.
Another reason is many high school and middle schools start before 8:30 am., this is bad because students constantly stay up later because of school assignments and everyday stress. Cdc.gov Schools need to start later states that “93% of high schools and 83% of middle schools start before 8:30 AM. 42 states reported that most (75%-100%) of public middle and high schools started before 8:30 AM.”. Many schools in the U.S start before 8:30 AM and many students in middle and high school are suffering from having to do so much school work.
If students did their homework right when they get home, eat dinner, and take care of hygiene they should be able to get to bed at a good time. Teens have lives and shouldn’t go throughout their night going task to task. A lot of teens have phones and social media and spend time on their phones every day. Not only that but not only teens but students, in general, have lives, they go to sports and clubs and that takes up time in a day.
In short, middle and high schools should push their arrival times back at least an hour. Many students would benefit from getting at least an extra hour of sleep and would perform a lot better in school. If you are truly passionate about wanting to push school arrival times back then you should write a suggestion or persuading argument to your principal.
