Students should be allowed to use their cell phones freely while in school
Did you know, 94 percent of students in a recent survey said they would want to use their cell phones in class. The present rule for students is no phones at all, not even in free time during classes. Another fact is, 95 percent of teenagers have a phone. Not being able to use their phone during class is affecting all those teenagers that have a cell phone. Students should be allowed to use their cell phones freely while in school when done with school work.

To start off, cell phones teach responsibility to teenagers. As Joe Mecca's article says, “There is a time and a place to browse Instagram, play Candy Crush, and take selfies. Just as a working professional would never do these things in the middle of a board meeting, so too should a student never do this in class.” When a student is all done with their school work they should be able to go on their phones without getting int trouble but, they should not be on it while a teacher is teaching. If a student's phone goes off while a teacher is teaching the student will have to ignore it, which teaches them the responsibility to ignore their phone. Although, phones should be on silent.

Another fact is, cell phones would be great in times of an emergency at school. As USA Today's article says, “There are a number of emergency levels that constitute different threats. Whether a student left their essay at home, and they need to call their parents to bring it in or if there is an intruder on campus posing a threat to the safety of all students, having a powered cell phone can help prevent a disaster from getting worse.” To explain, many students that don’t feel safe at school now, are most likely to feel a lot safer at school when they have their phones with them.

It is often argued that some kids might misuse their phones. Admittedly, some kids would most definitely abuse the privilege of using their phones freely in school. As a result, if teachers feel the need to take away a student's phone they may but, the student must get their phone back at the end of the period. If a student misuses their phone more than three times a day they would get a detention.

To conclude, children in school should be able to freely use their phones while in class when done with all school work because cell phones teach responsibility, cell phones would be great for a school emergency, and cell phones prepare students for future careers. This all proves that students should be able to use their phones freely while in school.
