My Broken Arm Journey
I broke my arm a few weeks ago while flying at cheer. I was standing on Summer's shoulders. This wasn't my first time doing this stunt, but it was the second practice I've done it. I've done this a few times prior to the incident but I, of course, didn't master it. Before I fell, I wasn't even fully standing. I was in a squat position struggling to stand. My left knee unlocked and I attempted to catch myself. My foot touched the ground first then my arm. Normally when I fall from stunts I say I'm okay, so I was about to say that I was fine until I looked at my arm. I heard my arm snap but didn't really think of it at the time being. I got up and looked at my arm and realized I was NOT fine. I didn't know what to do except scream. I held my arm up and my coach and I ran to the trainer. There was no feeling in my arm at all. They had called the ambulance right away. My mom was in Connecticut at the time, so they called my dad but didn't tell him what happened. I wasn't able to cry. My arm was so bad I couldn't look at it, so I had them cover it. When the ambulance got there they put me on the bed thing and gave me an I.V. The I.V. didn't really hurt. When we go there they put me to sleep to put my arm back in place. After I woke up I was loopy but that went away. They said I most likely won't need surgery but they wanted me to spend the night so the other doctor could confirm. The next morning the woke me up early, so they could take more x-rays to determine if I needed surgery. I was a mess because I didn't want it. They put me to sleep and took x-rays and I needed surgery. I didn't know they gave me surgery until after I woke up. Now I have to rods in my arm and a brace. I get my brace off fully on December 4th. I also might need physical therapy and in June I get surgery again to get the mettle rods out.
