Persuasive Blog- Why school hours should be shorter

Schooling hours for students in America are way too long, and not nearly as effective as other countries' schools. school start times range approximately from  7:30 am to 8:30 am, every day of the week. Whereas in Finland, schools start from 9:00 am to 9:45 am and end at 2:00 pm. despite this they mark exponentially higher academically. Plus, the students are happier and healthier. So, school hours, especially starting times, should be lessened.
First, it's a biological necessity for adolescents to get enough sleep. The way teens function is to stay up later and wake up later, it's expected to fall asleep after 11:00 pm, and still sleep 10 hours (teens are functional at 8-10 hours). While school expects students to do all of the homework, attend extracurricular activities, shower, have hobbies, and the student may have a religion to practice. And school still thinks you have time to go to sleep before 9 and wake up at 5? It's simply not how the body functions. melatonin in teens only turns on at 11:00 and turn off later in the morning (around 9-10 am). This is why America performs poorly academically, students perform the best afterschool.
Second, Finland's education system proves to be more effective and efficient with far fewer school hours. America continuously ranks middle to bottom compared to other nations. America's stubbornness has led to teens in America being sleep deprived and stressed. Finland, however, doesn't have standardized tests or waking up at 5 am! Finnish schools also have to go to school when you're older and starting later, and they still outrank us. So it's obvious America needs to remodel the school system. Finland's schools have their periods are long with longer breaks in between. Finnish students have the least homework in the world, and barely any classwork, these students also don't have grades. This proves my point, Finland, statistically is the happiest country, and one of the smartest.
Thirdly, Some parents would worry about not being able to drive their child to school because their work starts earlier. I understand the worry of some of these parents, but the buses are safe. There are also handicapped buses so every kid can ride the bus.
Therefore, school hours should be shorter as it is in the best interest of the students. It would help academically, mentally, and emotionally. If America followed this, I believe they would see a positive impact on the grades and happiness of the students.
